CUSTOMER CARE

  1. Maintenance

    • Tires and Wheels

    • Spoke tension, rim trueness, and wheel bearings: In the Rig’s upright position, check that the wheels spin true, without wobble.  The bearings are sealed and do not require grease, but you should check the bearing condition periodically by spinning the wheels and visual inspection.

    • Tires and Inflation: Check inflation with a tire gauge and adjust to the manufacturer’s recommended PSI on the tire.  Never exceed the maximum load rating given on the tire sidewall.  In the Rig’s upright position, perform a visual inspection of the tires for overall condition and replace if severely worn or damaged.

    • General Lubrication and Corrosion Prevention

      • Lube Pivot Points.  We recommend using WD-40 or its equivalent frequently wherever you have surfaces bearing against each other:

        • All five locking hitch pins (two per wheel and one at the tongue) plus additional locking hitch pins if you use tongue extensions.

        • The hinge bolt on the folding tongue

        • The coupler latch mechanism plus use heavier grease on the ball.

      • Do not submerge your SportsRig MicroTrailer in water.  We also recommend storing your Rig in a covered area to avoid repeated exposure to rain and moisture.  Although the surfaces are powder-coated, one of the most durable industrial finishes available, the structural steel tubing is not coated inside and will therefore slowly oxidize (rust) in the presence of water.  You can slow this process down by reducing its contact with moisture.

  2. Towing and your Safety Checklist

  • Check your State’s Motor Vehicle Code for operating trailers.  In many states, you will be subject to specific requirements including but not limited to:

  • Registration.  Most states will require you to register your trailer and get a license plate.

  • Speed Limits.  On some highways, vehicles with trailers are subject to reduced speed limits.

  • Flagging and Lights.  In California, if your boat extends more than 4 feet past the rear taillights, you are required to have a red flag at the rear in daylight and light at night.

    • Backing up your SportsRig.  Backing up a trailer is an acquired skill.  When backing up, turning your steering wheel to the right will make your trailer go to the left and visa versa.  If your MicroTrailer turns too much in either direction, you will not be able to reverse its course and you will have to pull forward.

BEFORE DRIVING – SAFETY CHECKLIST (keep in your vehicle):

  • ALL HITCH PINS ARE INSTALLED WITH WIRE LOCKS

  • COUPLER IS LOCKED ONTO YOUR TOW BALL WITH SAFETY PIN

  • SAFETY CHAIN IS ATTACHED TO YOUR VEHICLE

  • WIRING IS HOOKED UP AND LIGHTS HAVE BEEN CHECKED

  • WHEELS ARE CHECKED FOR WOBBLE

  • TIRES ARE INFLATED PROPERLY AND CHECKED

  • YOUR LOAD IS SECURED AND YOU HAVE 10% TONGUE WEIGHT

  • YOUR LOAD IS FLAGGED (DAYTIME) OR LIGHTED (NIGHTTIME) AT THE REAR IF IT’S 4 FEET OR MORE OFF THE REAR TAILLIGHTS.  CHECK WITH YOUR STATE’S REQUIREMENTS!

SOME IMPORTANT WARNINGS:
  • Never carry more cargo weight than what your shock’s weight limit is rated for.

  • Make sure your overall weight is distributed to give you at least 10% of your weight on the tongue.  If your weight is even between the crossbars, you should have the necessary tongue weight.  Otherwise, like any trailer, it may fishtail on the highway and become unstable.

  • Do not back the SportsRig into water.

  • Register your SportsRig with your State, get and attach a license plate if required, and follow your state’s requirements for operation of your new SportsRig MicroTrailer.

IMPORTANT: This is a trailer rated for highway speeds and engineered to exacting standards.  DO NOT SUBSTITUTE ANY BOLTS OR FASTENERS FOR THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED and follow the instructions very carefully.  If you are missing or have misplaced a fastener, email us immediately.  Many of the fasteners have Grade 5 strength ratings.  USING LOWER GRADE fasteners MAY RESULT IN FAILURE.  All the nuts are self-locking and must not be replaced with standard nuts.  Substituting lower grade fasteners or failure to use self-locking nuts COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE INJURY OR DEATH.
